Retirement will be treated in accordance with the Teacher's and State Employees' Retirement System of North Carolina. No employee will be required to retire at any age.
Any employee who anticipates retirement will notify the superintendent at least 90 days prior to his or her intended retirement date, except in cases where health or other extenuating circumstances make shorter notices necessary.
RETIREMENT INCOME
All full time, permanent employees of the Wilkes County Board of Education are members of the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System. An income for retired members is one of the benefits provided by the system. This income, along with Social Security benefits, combine for a monthly retirement income. The amount to be received is based on salary and the total period of time in which the member has made contributions.
The earliest age at which a member may receive retirement benefits, except when disabled, is fifty (50) provided the member has as much as twenty (20) years of service or any age with 30 years of service. Should a member become permanently disabled after five (5) years of creditable service, he may receive a long term disability benefit at any age through the Teachers' and State Employees' Retirement System.
