Traphill Elementary School's PFE Plan

Title 1 School Parent and Family Engagement Plan

School Year: 2025-2026

School: Traphill Elementary School

Date Submitted: August 25, 2025

Policy Involvement

Traphill Elementary School's Title I Parent and Family Engagement Plan is created based on feedback from stakeholders. Our TES School Improvement Team (PCL), our Parent Advisory Council, and our PTO officers review the plan, revise and edit the plan, and discuss avenues to share the plan with all stakeholders. Parent Advisory Council meetings take place face-to-face each quarter, with occasional phone and/or Zoom conferences when some can't attend. TES has eight parents who serve on the Parent Advisory Council, and all are invited to attend Positive Change Leadership/Title I meetings. These meetings are held after school hours, with the exception of the beginning-of-year meeting, which was held on August 18, 2025.

At the beginning of the school year, Traphill Elementary School held its Back to School Event on August 22nd. It was held school-wide and in person. Families were given information packets which consisted of our Student Handbook/Calendar, our Title I Parent/Student/School Compact, and other vital documents, copies of which will be stored in Title I Crate, Wilkes County's Title I documentation storage program. Family attendance was documented at Open House meetings with sign-in sheets for each grade.

All hard copies of communication regarding TES Title I will be offered in a language and format easily understandable to all stakeholders.

A schedule of all PCL meetings is on our school website so that any stakeholder can plan to attend. Every PCL/Title I meeting is documented with an agenda, sign-in sheet, and minutes. This information is available to parents through a guest log-in.

Shared Responsibility for High Student Academic Achievement

At the beginning of the 2025-2026 school year, the school compact was reviewed to ensure the needed responsibilities of the school, staff, parents, and students support our PCL Goals for the 2025/2026 school year. The school compact was discussed at the first Title I meeting and communicated to all parents attending Back to School Night on August 22, 2025. Teachers will, in addition, discuss the school compact agreements and expectations during quarterly conferences with families. We have scheduled three Curriculum Nights to inform parents of the standards we are expected to teach in North Carolina and to give them ideas, resources, and instructions to enable them to reinforce their students' mastery of the standards. One of these nights will focus on ELA and Music, another on Math and Art, and another on Science and Physical Education.

The input of parents is valued at Traphill Elementary, and as such, the school has an open-door policy throughout the year, which enables parents to communicate concerns, ask questions, and collaborate with staff regarding the success of their students. TES holds parent/teacher/student conferences at least three times per year and more often at parents' requests. These conferences will be documented with sign-in sheets and topics discussed.

Building Capacity for Involvement

We invite all parents to multiple events throughout the school year. During these events, we review current progress, solicit feedback, discuss curriculum and school happenings, provide connections with outside organizations and connections with our PTO, and provide opportunities for parents to learn how best to help their children with school-related issues. This year, these events will take place on:

August 22nd – Back to School Night/Open House

October 7th – PTO/ELA/Spotlight on Music Night

January 13th – PTO/Math Night/Art Show

March 17th – PTO/STEM/Spotlight on PE Night

We have planned additional events to take place at varying times of the day throughout the year in order to give all parents an equal opportunity to attend with their students. Regardless of their work/life schedule, all parents will have the opportunity to partner in their child's education, show support for the school, and build relationships with staff members.

August 7th – North District Community Night

September 5th – Grandparents' Day Celebration

September 19th – Back to School Social

October 18th – BooooooPalooza

October 28th – Terrific Kids

November 7th – Veterans Breakfast and Appreciation

November 14th – Glow Dance

December 12th – The Holiday Who-bee What-ee

January 13th – PTO/Math/Spotlight on Art

February 3rd – Terrific Kids

February 20th – Family Dance

March 24th – Terrific Kids

May 9th – May Day of Play

May 27th – Kinder-4th Awards/TK

May 28th – Field Day

May 29th – 5th Grade Awards/TK

In addition to these, we will host Red Ribbon Week, field trips, a Career Fair, and several after-school clubs for which parents/family members can volunteer. This year, we plan to add Marathon Kids and Who's WHO (Wildcats Helping Others) to our list of extra-curricular offerings, including Quiz Bowl and Science Olympiad.

These events are communicated through our school calendar and are well-advertised on Remind, Facebook, Instagram, and Traphill's school website. These events are also posted on our school sign, and information about the events is directly communicated through weekly updates in School Messenger, through newsletters, and via our phone/email/SIMS system. We have an assigned interpreter to provide services at events and for communications as needed.

Funding

Title I parenting funds are going to be used for resources that allow for clear communication between school and home. Other items slated for this fund are supplies for the Curriculum Nights and books/materials for our One School/One Book Reads.

This document was jointly developed and approved with input from our Parent Advisory Council. Every meeting with our parents is documented with an agenda, sign-in sheet, and minutes of the meeting.
