Policy Involvement

Mt. Pleasant Elementary School welcomes parent involvement. We invite parents and have representation at our school leadership team meetings, where we discuss ideas, and Mrs. Byers discusses with PTO members at bimonthly officer meetings as well as quarterly Parent Advisory meetings. PTO also gives updates at PTO parent nights held three times a year. Parents will be polled at our PTO advisory committee meetings to better the school. Parents will complete a survey about our events and the school as a whole, as they did the last two years. We allow parent volunteers to help in the school, at special events, and on field trips.

  • Student handbook and open house night on Thursday, August 21st, at two different sessions at 4:30 PM or 5:30 PM that included Title I documentation on a video sent out, as well as school/classroom expectations including parent/student compacts.
  • PTO meetings and family engagement nights discuss Title I School Status on September 25th, October 27th, and March 26th.
  • Teachers will conference with families after 1st quarter and during 3rd quarter about academic progress.
  • Volunteer involvement during dances, Spring Fling, field day, and other events.
  • Each month, parents provide lunch for staff members held by the PTO and the parent communication committee chair.
  • Parents have a calendar/student handbook that was shared out during open house meetings and on the Remind app. This is also shared on the parent Weebly.
  • Parents get Remind messages school-wide, classroom-wide, and individual messages.
  • Parents receive a weekly school messenger call and a parent Weebly website that includes dates and important information each week. This information will also be shared on Remind and through email/text/parent message center in the Infinite Campus portal.
  • PTO advisory will be asked about how the school is doing, and take suggestions.
  • Meetings are offered after school and during evening hours for families to meet.
  • Each meeting is documented with agenda, sign-in sheet, and notes.

Our Back to School meeting that was held on Thursday, August 21st, was held in two different sessions with a video from principal Mrs. Byers that explained Title I, documents, carline, and other information for families.

  • Title I School Status - We are a Title I school that is funded with federal funds.
  • Rights of Title I Parents and advisory meetings to help us improve each year.
  • Parent and Family Engagement Plan is updated each year to show how we update information.
  • Curriculum/Academic Standards are shared through quarterly newsletters and PTO family nights so that parents understand what we are teaching and how to help at home.
  • Assessments/Achievement Levels will be sent home to families and displayed in the Infinite Campus portal.
  • Information is shared and feedback is solicited for possible revision.
  • Meetings are offered at a time and date convenient to parents/families.
  • Alternate meeting times or notes from the meetings are provided upon request. PTO officer meetings, advisory, and important information are also uploaded to our PTO page on the parent Weebly.
  • Information is presented in a language and format understandable to parents.
  • Our parent liaison is a great communicator for families to ask questions and gain information. Our interpreter helps families fill out paperwork and answer questions.
  • Each meeting is documented with an agenda, sign-in sheet, and minutes.

Shared Responsibility for High Student Academic Achievement

The School-Parent Compact is a communication tool to support achievement for parents, school staff, and students. The Compact is an agreement on how each person (and the student) will support each other in ensuring that the student is successful. This compact was revised this year to match the mission and vision of Mt. Pleasant Elementary School.

  • Revised school-parent compact to reflect the vision of Mt. Pleasant Elementary and share at Open House night.
  • School Compact is reviewed with parents, and feedback is solicited for possible revision.
  • Applicable information above regarding meetings as it relates to the School Compact.

Building Capacity for Involvement

During our PTO meetings this year, they will be paired with parent nights on STEAM, math, and reading, along with a musical performance by each grade level. We will send out reminders and notifications of family nights, PTO meetings, and parent advisory meetings.

  • This year, PTO has elected a volunteer coordinator chair to be the bridge between school and family. This person will contact parents about volunteering and being involved with the school.
  • We also utilized Title I funding to hire a part-time parent liaison to help parents gain information on resources to help at home or information in general.

Parents are notified by school messenger calls, parent Weebly website, school Facebook page, and classroom Remind. Some events are printed out and sent home with the students.

Accessibility

  • Times are discussed with parents and parent advisory so parents can have an opportunity to come. These dates are provided in September and alternate the day of the week they are offered.
  • Scheduling is flexible especially conference times, teachers having a floating time for open house meetings.
  • Communication about events is advertised in multiple ways and places.
  • If Spanish copies are needed, we have a person at the central services who helps to translate for families.

Funding

This school year, parent engagement funds will be used for supplies needed for academic family nights. We will also host a STEAM, math, and reading night for families. Staff members will help families with academic content and what they can do at home to help their child. During the March reading night with family, parent engagement funds are used for One School, One Book, where every student and staff receives the same copy of the book to read during Read Across America week. Supplies for parent nights and Spring Fling are also purchased with parent and family engagement funds.
