WECHS Charters New FFA Chapter
Congratulations to Wilkes County Schools' newest FFA (Future Farmers of America) chapter, Wilkes Early College High School! WECHS held a special ceremony on February 14th with guests from the community and North Carolina State FFA Officers.
Wilkesboro Elementary Hosts Community Outreach Event
On Wednesday, January 30, Wilkesboro Elementary hosted a Community Outreach Event! Jody Call, Chief Technology Officer at Wilkes Communications visited and spoke to grades 3, 4, and 5 about digital citizenship and internet safety. Mr. Call spent an hour with students from each grade level and allowed students time to ask questions about pressing topics. Mr. Call talked to each grade level about topics that were high interest and relevant to their age group. Wilkesboro Elementary staff would like to thank Mr. Call for spending time with our students and helping them become more aware and safe while they are online!
Author Makes Special Visit to Wilkesboro Elementary
On Tuesday, February 5, author Deborah Clayton visited Wilkesboro Elementary School and shared her series of
books about Dew Bear with grades K-3. Mrs. Clayton had a wonderful presentation and kept all students fascinated with her focus "the importance of imagination." Wilkesboro Elementary has a Pre-K student, Mattie G., who inspired one of the characters in the Dew Bear Collection.
MFES Celebrates 100 Days
Ms. Pruitt's kindergarten class celebrated the 100th day of school! Students dressed up like they were 100 years old!
Wilkes County Schools' Top Spellers
Congratulations to the winners of the 2019 Wilkes County Schools Spelling Bee Competition!

Middle School Principals Present at Conference
Two of Wilkes County Schools' middle school principals got the opportunity to present at the Leader in Me Symposium in Columbia, S.C. Great job, Mrs. Freeman, principal of North Wilkes Middle School and Mrs. Huffman, principal of West Wilkes Middle School! You make us proud!
Wilkesboro Elementary Students Participate in Education Day
On Thursday, February 7, Wilkesboro Elementary students who met their summer reading goal participated in Appalachian State University's Elementary Education Day! Thirty-two students, Mrs. St. John (Media Specialist), Mrs. Carlton (School Counselor), and parents took part in a campus tour and watched a women's basketball game. Students were honored for making reading an important part of their summer!
MVES 4th Graders Excel in "Fourthnite"
Mountain View Elementary 4th Graders participated in a Math Camp Activity called FOURTHNITE! Students are familiar with the game, Fortnite, and while they didn't play at school, MVES did give them an opportunity to create their own "skins" and "dances" for completing math challenges. It was a HUGE success!
