Pre-K Services
Wilkes County Schools offers a voluntary Pre-K program designed to prepare four-year-olds for success in school. High-quality centers are located in 11 elementary schools to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum with evidence-based learning experiences for students.
Application Process for Pre-K
Eligibility
To be eligible, a child must:
- Be four years old by August 31st of the enrollment year
- Be a resident of Wilkes County
And one of the following:
- Meet the family size and income requirements set by the state of North Carolina
- Be a child of an active military family
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online and are available on the Wilkes County Schools web page. All applicants must provide copies of:
- A certified birth certificate
- Proof of income for adults living in the home
- Proof of military status, if applicable
When completing an application for determination of eligibility, families will be asked to provide the Pre-K program with the following information concerning the child's development:
- Family Size
- Gross Monthly Income
- Previous Child Care Experience
- English Proficiency
- Identified Special Need or Chronic Health Condition
- Educational Need
If a child is accepted into the program, families will be asked to provide the Pre-K program with:
- A Copy of the Child's Updated Immunizations
- A Copy of a Current Physical
