Pre-K Services

Wilkes County Schools offers a voluntary Pre-K program designed to prepare four-year-olds for success in school. High-quality centers are located in 11 elementary schools to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum with evidence-based learning experiences for students.

Application Process for Pre-K

Eligibility

To be eligible, a child must:

  • Be four years old by August 31st of the enrollment year
  • Be a resident of Wilkes County

And one of the following:

  • Meet the family size and income requirements set by the state of North Carolina
  • Be a child of an active military family
 

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted online and are available on the Wilkes County Schools web page. All applicants must provide copies of:

  • A certified birth certificate 
  • Proof of income for adults living in the home
  • Proof of military status, if applicable
 

When completing an application for determination of eligibility, families will be asked to provide the Pre-K program with the following information concerning the child's development:

  • Family Size
  • Gross Monthly Income
  • Previous Child Care Experience
  • English Proficiency
  • Identified Special Need or Chronic Health Condition
  • Educational Need  
      

If a child is accepted into the program, families will be asked to provide the Pre-K program with:

  • A Copy of the Child's Updated Immunizations
  • A Copy of a Current Physical
