Pre-K Services

Wilkes County Schools offers a voluntary Pre-K program designed to prepare four-year-olds for success in school. High-quality centers are located in 12 elementary schools to provide a developmentally appropriate curriculum with evidenced-based learning experiences for students.

Application Process for Pre-K

To be eligible, a child must:
  • Be four years old by August 31st of the enrollment year
  • Be a resident of Wilkes County
And one of the following:
  • Meet the family size and income requirements set by the state of North Carolina
  • Be a child of an active military family
  • Agree to a tuition pay contract
  • Receive a Department of Social Services Child Care Voucher

How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online and are available on the Wilkes County Schools web page.  All applicants must provide copies of:
  • A certified birth certificate 
  • Proof of income for adults living in the home
  • Proof of military status, if applicable

When completing an application for determination of eligibility, families will be asked to provide the Pre-K program with the following information concerning the child's development:
  • Family Size
  • Gross Monthly Income
  • Previous Child Care Experience
  • English Proficiency
  • Identified Special Need or Chronic Health Condition
  • Educational Need        
If a child is accepted into the program, families will be asked to provide the Pre-K program with:
  • A Copy of the Child's Updated Immunizations
  • A Copy of a Current Physical
