can you get on your school bus each day you join more than three-quarters of a million students in North Carolina to ride the bus every school day over 13000 buses are on the roads in our state alone and they travel 180 million miles per year that equals a trip to sun and back so with so many writers and so many cars and trucks on our roads it is important for you to know the proper way to ride the bus and stay safe these procedures are in place for one reason to keep you safe it will take just a few short minutes to go over the 50 rules for boarding and riding the bus but these rules will be some of the most important you'll learn all year long and could save your life let's start at the bus stop while you're waiting for your bus stay in your designated area it could be a bus stop or yard never play or stand in the street while waiting on your bus stay at your designated bus stop don't wander off don't horseplay or rough house remember you are on your way to school and should begin with proper behavior even at the bus stop as the bus approaches line stop or if you're alone wait quietly away from the road at this point you should take out any earbuds and put away your phones or iPods all electronic devices should be stored in your pocket or bookbag do not approach the bus until it is come to a complete stop the light begin to flash and the stop arm will be extended when the bus driver opens the door look both ways and make sure the bus is stopped and no cars are moving this is very important everything should be stopped before you get on board your bus did you know where is a danger zone around every school bus this is an area where you can become hidden from the view of the bus driver the driver must always be able stay away from the bus danger zones 10ft in every direction around the bus can be dangerous avoid these areas as who approached the bus if you have to cross the street to board the bus again look both ways and make sure any cars or stop to only cross the street when no vehicles are moving walk quietly to the bus as you step on board use the handrail if drop something let the driver know once you tell the driver they'll give you permission to retrieve anything you dropped but you must tell the driver first any reason go under a school bus to get a lost item never when you're on board walk quietly to your sign seat you can always talk quiet late but keep your voices low remember the school bus driver is in charge you must listen to the driver at all times and follow any rules to Viber has stay in your seat don't stand up or walk in the aisles keep your hands to yourself and never put your head hands arms out of the school bus window knowing how to get off the school bus is important to wait for the bus to come to a complete stop quietly down the aisle to the door and once again hold on to the handrail and walk down the stairs remember those danger zones keep them in my when did you exit the bus and proceeded to your bus stop student should stay away from bus wheels at all times if you have to cross the street immediately out of the danger zone and walk at least 15 feet in front of the bus before stopping to cross the street if you can touch the bus you're too close and don't forget look both ways head quietly to your designated area and if you fall these rules and listen to your bus driver you will have a safe trip to and from school thank you for doing your part to make every trip a safe one
