February 13, 2023 (Special Called Board Meeting)
The Board of Education of the Wilkes County Administrative Unit met in a called special meeting at 5:00 PM on Monday, February 13, 2023, in the Arnold and Becky Lackey Boardroom at 613 Cherry Street, North Wilkesboro, North Carolina 28659.
Present for the called special meeting were Chairman Mr. Randall "Rudy" Holbrook, Vice-Chairman Mr. Hardin Kennedy, and Board Members Mrs. Joan Caudill and Mrs. Jammie Jolly. Unable to attend was Board Member Mr. Kirk Walker. Also present were Superintendent Mr. D. Mark Byrd, Assistant Superintendent and Executive Director of Personnel Dr. Westley Wood, Chief Academic Officer Mrs. Callie Grubb, Executive Director of Federal Programs and Career & Technical Education Dr. Joe Bullis, Director of Maintenance Mr. Bergie Speaks, and Executive Administrative Assistant Ms. Carolyn Triplett.
Chairman Mr. Randall "Rudy" Holbrook called the meeting to order.
On a motion by Mr. Kennedy, seconded by Mrs. Caudill and duly carried, the agenda was approved as presented.
Superintendent Mr. D. Mark Byrd led everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance.
On a motion by Mrs. Caudill, seconded by Mr. Kennedy, the ESSER Project bids were approved as presented. ESSER projects were advertised and proposals were received for Wilkes Central, Wilkesboro, Ronda-Clingman, C.B. Eller, and C.C. Wright on January 26, 2023. Only two contractors submitted proposals, so the bids were not opened. The projects were re-advertised and on February 7th, proposals were received and opened at 2:00 PM at the C. Wayne Bradburn Distribution Center. The following contractors were the apparent low bidder for each project and are listed below:
Wilkes Central, Associated HVAC – $1,869,000.00
Wilkesboro, Associated HVAC – $1,689,000.00
Ronda-Clingman, Commercial Air Systems – $887,700.00.00
C.B. Eller, Commercial Air Systems – $1,411,000.00
C.C. Wright, Associated HVAC – $955,000.00
Wilkesboro, Associated HVAC – $1,689,000.00
Ronda-Clingman, Commercial Air Systems – $887,700.00.00
C.B. Eller, Commercial Air Systems – $1,411,000.00
C.C. Wright, Associated HVAC – $955,000.00
Both of these companies are local contractors and have done these types of projects. Associated is currently working on projects at Mulberry, Millers Creek, and Mountain View. Commercial Air Systems had worked recently with Surry County Schools.
With no further business being presented and upon a motion by Mr. Kennedy, seconded by Ms. Jolly, the meeting was adjourned at 5:10 PM.
