Principals and Teachers Honored

Mrs. Laura Snipes Brooks, math teacher at Wilkes Central High School, was named Wilkes County Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Brooks has been teaching in Wilkes since 2006.
 
Other teacher of the year nominees were Natasha Parlier, Boomer-Ferguson Elementary; Andrew J. Kinder, C.B. Eller Elementary; Kailee Hamby, C.C. Wright Elementary; Gwen Callaway, East Wilkes High School; Rita Ray, East Wilkes Middle School; Sharon Long, Moravian Falls Elementary; Tracy Call, Mount Pleasant Elementary; Teresa G. Stone, Mountain View Elementary; Rebecca Adams Ward, Mulberry Elementary; Teresa Watkins, North Wilkes High School; Kimberly Gilley, North Wilkesboro Elementary; Tracie Walker, Ronda-Clingman Elementary; Billie Jean Johnson, Traphill Elementary; Erin Hunt, West Wilkes High School; Alex Baucom, West Wilkes Middle School; and A. Courtney Dollyhite, Wilkesboro Elementary.
 
In addition to Mrs. Brooks, other teacher of the year finalists included Kendal Finley Prevette from Central Wilkes Middle School, Laurin Mayberry from Millers Creek Elementary, Alania Day from North Wilkes Middle School, Tiffany Lane from Roaring River Elementary, and Martha M. Pellar from Wilkes Early College High School.
 
Mrs. Rebecca J. Mastin, principal of Mountain View Elementary School, was named Wilkes County Principal of the year. She began her career with Wilkes County Schools in 1994 and has served as a school administrator for the past 14 years.
 
In addition to Mrs. Mastin, other principal of the year finalists included Chad L. Mann from C.B. Eller Elementary, Pamela Huffman from West Wilkes Middle School, and Michelle H. Shepherd from Wilkes Early College High School.
