Turner Chosen as Recipient of NCHSAA Homer Thompson Memorial “Eight Who Make a Difference” Award

Coach Ron Turner

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA) held their annual awards celebration on Wednesday, June 23rd.  Typically, these awards are announced at the Association’s Annual Meeting and Awards Celebration, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Association elected to make the announcement virtually.

Coach Ron Turner from Wilkes Central High School was announced as a recipient of the Homer Thompson Memorial “Eight Who Make a Difference” Award.  This award is sponsored by NC Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company and recognizes eight coaches in North Carolina who exemplify good sportsmanship and are positive role models for student-athletes.  Chiquana Dancy, NCHSAA Director of Sports and Students Programs stated, “Coach Turner has had a long battle with cancer that has inspired his students and athletes because of his dedication and commitment to the team.”  Coach Turner has served as the head football coach at Wilkes Central High School for the past seven years.
