Summary of Board Minutes February 2, 2015
The Board of Education of the Wilkes County Administrative Unit met in a regular meeting beginning at 5:30 p. m. on Monday, February 2, 2015 at North Wilkes Middle School in the Media Center located at 2776 Yellow Banks Road, North Wilkesboro, North Carolina 28659.
Present for the meeting were Chairman Randall “Rudy” Holbrook, Vice Chairman Mrs. Sharron Huffman, Board Member Mr. Darren Shumate. Mr. Rick Lankford, and Mr. Hardin C. Kennedy, III were absent. Also present were Superintendent Dr. Marty T. Hemric, Associate Superintendent Ms. Anna Lankford, Assistant Superintendent Mr. Mark Byrd, Director of Business Services & Chief School Finance Officer Mr. Seth Prevette, Director of Human Resources Dr. Westley Wood, Director of Development Mr. Dennis Huggins, Director of Maintenance Mr. Bergie Speaks, and Executive Administrative Assistant Carolyn Triplett.
On a motion by Mr. Shumate, seconded by Mrs. Huffman and duly carried, the agenda was approved as presented.
Chairman Mr. Holbrook recognized Dr. Hemric for the devotional thought and pledge of allegiance.
Assistant Superintendent Mr. Mark Byrd recognized The Youth Philanthropy Board, T3LC (Time, Talent, Treasure, Leading to Change) of Wilkes County Schools. These students awarded grants to thirteen local groups totaling $7,500 for youth-led projects in Wilkes County. The groups, amounts awarded and the projects are:

United Teens in Action– Service Project, $462

Associate Superintendent Mrs. Anna Lankford gave an update on North Carolina School Report Cards. On February 5, 2015, North Carolina Department of Public Instruction will release the North Carolina School Reports Cards for the 2013-2014 school year. The report cards will provide information regarding student achievement, attendance, class size, school safety, school technology and other topics for all twenty two schools in Wilkes County. As mandated by the North Carolina General Assembly, schools will receive an A-F school performance grade.
Chairman Mr. Holbrook asked if anyone had signed up for public comments. Ms. Melanie Hudson, Band Teacher at North Wilkes High School and North Wilkes Middle School spoke to the Wilkes County Board of Education Members and attendees. Ms. Hudson invited everyone to attend the All County Band Concert being held at the John A. Walker Center on Saturday, February 7, 2015 beginning at 2:00 pm.
On a motion by Mrs. Huffman, seconded by Mr. Shumate and duly carried, the minutes were approved as presented.
On a motion by Mr. Shumate, seconded by Mrs. Huffman and duly carried, the following Personnel Report and Blue Sheet were approved.
On a motion by Mrs. Huffman, seconded by Mr. Shumate and duly carried, the Grants and Funding for Special Projects Policy were approved as presented.
On a motion by Mrs. Huffman, seconded by Mr. Shumate and duly carried, the following Out-of-County/Overnight Field Trips were approved as presented.

On a motion by Mrs. Huffman, seconded by Mr. Shumate and duly carried, the Budget Amendments were approved as presented.
Chairman Mr. Rudy Holbrook made the following announcements:

February 17, 2015 – Required Teacher Workday
Superintendent Dr. Marty Hemric asked everyone to please keep the family of Rev. Richard Calton in their thoughts and prayers. Rev. Calton was a bus driver for North Wilkesboro Elementary School for two years. He passed away on January 27, 2015.
Chairman Mr. Rudy Holbrook and Board Members thanked the staff of North Wilkes Middle School as well as Principal Mr. David Johnson for hosting the Board of Education Meeting. Chairman Mr. Rudy Holbrook announced the next Board meeting will be March 2, 2015 5:30 p.m. in the Arnold and Becky Lakey Boardroom located at 613 Cherry Street, North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.
On a motion by Mr. Shumate, seconded by Mrs. Huffman and duly carried, there being no further business, the Board adjourned at 6:09 p.m.
