Welcome to the Remote Learning Grading Guidance site for Grades 6 through 8. This is the Wilkes County Schools' plan for Spring of 2020.

Wilkes County Schools' focus for grading in grades 6 through 8 will be on engagement more than evaluation. We want to engage the student in the activities and the content more than evaluating assignments. We will focus on promoting student growth and content mastery, and preparing our students for our return to school and the next grade level. Continuing contact with students to provide that meaningful feedback and a connection to their school will be a focus. An important piece to remember, and a focus for all of us, is that the school year is not over. Our school buildings may be closed, but we expect learning to continue until the end of the school year.

So, how will grades be determined for grades 6 through 8?
Grades during remote learning will only be given if all of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction's critical factors are met. Those critical factors are:  that learning is accessible by all students meeting all diverse needs; there is consistent communication occurring between teachers and students; that priority standards and skill development are the focus; that there is evidence of student learning included; and, importantly, that we consider the whole child, including the Home Learning environment. All final evaluation of learning for students will be based on our last day of face-to-face instruction which was March 13th. Any additional learning, feedback, or grading will only improve a student's final grade.

Wilkes County Schools' current plan for grades 6 through 8 are that remote learning will continue through May 15th or the end of the school year. Focus will be on giving continued feedback to students to support their growth and progress toward the next grade level. Due dates may be given for assignments, but not meeting those dates will not harm a student's final grade. Promotion to the next grade level will be determined by student progress through March 13th and any additional progress made during remote learning. And, remember, the school year is not over. We want to prepare your child for their future education. We expect learning to continue until the end of the school year.
