"Obtaining my National Board Certification has encouraged me to reflect on my teaching practices and more extensively consider the opportunity that I have to impact students on a daily basis. Analyzing teaching strategies and making changes to meet the needs of individual students comes more easily after going through the National Board process. I feel that my initial certification and renewal requirements continually help me evaluate my strategies and increase student success when teaching curriculum. National Board Certification certainly pushes teachers to reflect in the classroom and make positive changes."

"My certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards has meant a great deal to me.  When I completed my initial certification process and, more recently, the renewal process, I gained a greater understanding of who I was as a teacher and who I wanted to be as a teacher.  The reflection components of the certification process has helped me identify my own strengths and weaknesses and examine ways to improve myself as an educator."

"The process challenged and continues to challenge me in many ways which have shaped my outlook on my role as an educator.  I have learned more about the importance of reflection and getting to know students.  I came away with an understanding of the necessity of being a lifelong learner and will continue the journey of seeking better methods and adding new strategies to my teaching toolbox which will ultimately lead students to success.   Networking is fundamental as I alone can make an impact, yet as I work with others the impact expands greatly.  This process helps me focus my teaching using a growth mindset."

"National Board certification has been a mile stone achievement for my career. I have been able to see what other NB teachers are doing across the nation and gather some great resources. Also, teachers who are new to the profession are now connecting with me for classroom strategies and are in turn sharing some of their own. Certification has opened up great opportunities for collaboration with fellow teachers."

"Personally, completing and passing the National Boards was like finishing a condensed Master's program in 9 months.  I thought that the renewal process would be a easier compared to the rigor of the the first.  Both processes make you look proactively at what you do, who it benefits, and what you can do better.  The analyzing and reflection required for the National Boards makes what you do everyday more meaningful and I would like to think it has made me a better school counselor."

"As teachers we do not often have the opportunity to challenge ourselves in our respective academic areas and we become too comfortable with the routine of our teaching style. Going through the process of obtaining my National Boards certification, at the time, was one of the most challenging academic ventures I had experienced while working in education. Exposure to the process of National Board certification forced me to examine my teaching practices and reflect on how to better serve the students in my classroom. My focus in teaching now is always questioning how my students can benefit the most from the skills they master in my classroom and how to connect those skills to their future self."

"Reflection, reflection, reflection.  Wow!  The process of receiving my National Board Certification was so intensely focused on reviewing lessons, data analysis, and impact on learning that it permanently altered the way that I teach. Self-reflection has now become a tool for daily use in my classroom; determining the impact my lessons have on student learning allows me the opportunity to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of my students.  I am thankful for the  National Board Certification process; it is truly one of the most effective professional development opportunities offered to educators."
