Kindergarten Enrollment for 2020-2021

Kindergarten Enrollment for 2020-2021 (next school year!)
The Wilkes County Schools kindergarten enrollment process begins with Fun Times events held at each of the thirteen elementary schools. The next step in the enrollment process is a Kindergarten Screening day, where children will go through a few health and skill screening stations while parents complete the online enrollment process through InfoSnap. If your child  currently attends Pre-K in Wilkes County Schools, you will only need to complete a shortened form of the online enrollment process this year.
Children must be 5 years old by August 31, 2020, to enroll in kindergarten.
To help prepare parents/guardians for the enrollment process, we are providing the information below about the dates/times for Kindergarten events:

When you attend the Screening & Enrollment session, please bring your child and the following documents with you:

  • Child’s certified birth
  • Copy of up-to-date immunization records.
    If your child is not immunized, you will need to speak with a school nurse during the screening.
  • Proof of residency. A utility bill with the service address (power, water, ), mortgage statement, rental/lease agreement, buyer’s agreement, homeowner’s or renter’s insurance policy with address, or a property tax statement. Please note: If a student’s parent or legal guardian does not have a verifiable residence but is living with a resident of Wilkes County, the parent or custodial adult and the county resident may sign a Wilkes County Schools Statement of Residence Affidavit to satisfy the residency requirement. Any of the items listed above can be used as a proof of residence for the county resident.
  • Proof of guardianship (if applicable). Can include birth certificate, divorce papers, Social Services paperwork, or paperwork signed by a judge awarding Custody paperwork authorized by a judge or Social Services/foster care placement is required for all children not living with their natural parent.
    Please note: If a student is living with an adult who is not their parent or legal guardian, there are additional forms that will need to be completed during enrollment. These forms will be provided by the school.
Information that may be helpful to have with you if you complete the online enrollment at the school:
  • Names and phone numbers of emergency contacts – Two people the school may contact in case of an emergency when the parent/guardian cannot be reached.
  • Names of medications taken by child. (if applicable)
  • Military branch, status, rank, and installation for any immediate family members of the child

Items that will be required prior to the start of school in August:
  • Health Assessment. This form is completed by the child’s doctor. Forms will be given to parents/guardians at the Kindergarten Screening. If your doctor has already completed this form for your child, you may bring it to the screening as well.
