EWHS Driver's Education Schedule - Summer 2026
EWHS Class Information

Session 1 Class Dates: June 5, 6, 8, 9, and 11 (No Make-Up Day)
Session 1 Class Time: Each day is from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM (Students bring lunch)
OR
Session 2 Class Dates: July 28, 29, 30, 31, and August 3 (No Make-Up Day)
Session 2 Class Times: Each day is from 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM (Students bring lunch)
Make-Up Date: No Make-Up Day

Parent Meeting: Monday, May 18, 2026, at 5:15 PM (for $65 fee collection) and 6:00 PM (for a short meeting) at the East Wilkes High School cafeteria; this will be the only Parent Meeting for both sessions, and a parent/guardian must attend with their student
Registration: Registration forms can be picked up in the office or printed from the Wilkes County Schools website (Driver's Education Registration Form). They must be turned in to the office by 3:30 PM on May 18, 2026
Additional Information and Requirements
State law requires students to be 14½ on or before the first day of class.
Registration forms may be picked up in the front office or downloaded from the district website (Driver's Education Registration Form). Include the student's school email address (if applicable) and at least two (2) phone numbers.
Forms and the $65 course fee will be collected at the Parent Meeting. Please make checks payable to East Wilkes High School or bring exact change. Payment must be made before the beginning of class. Class rules and regulations will also be discussed at the Parent Meeting.
This is a 30-hour course, and all students must attend 30 hours of instruction. Only one absence is allowed and must be made up.
The class is open to all public school, private school, and homeschooled students.
For Behind-the-Wheel Training, the oldest students will be scheduled first. Please do not expect to be given a driving schedule when the classroom portion is completed. Mr. Ortiz will be in charge of the BTW training, and many factors determine when students are scheduled. Every effort is made to get students through this hands- on training as soon as possible.
