Summer of Called Meeting July 13, 2016

The Board of Education of the Wilkes County Administrative Unit met in a called meeting at 4:00 p. m. on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 in the Instructional Services Conference Room at 613 Cherry, North Wilkesboro, and North Carolina 28659.  The purpose of this meeting is to discuss/approve the Bids for Roofing Projects at Wilkesboro, and Mulberry Elementary Schools.

Present for the meeting were Chairman Randall “Rudy” Holbrook, Vice Chairman Mrs. Sharron Huffman, and Board Member Mr. Darren Shumate.  Ms. Leslie Barnes and Mr. Kirk Walker were absent.  Also present were Superintendent Mr. D. Mark Byrd, Associate Superintendent Ms. Anna Lankford, Chief Finance Officer Mr. Seth Prevette, Director of Maintenance Mr. Bergie Speaks, and Executive Administrative Assistant Carolyn Triplett. 

Chairman Mr. Holbrook called the meeting to order. 

On a motion by Mr. Shumate seconded by Mrs. Huffman, and duly carried the agenda was approved as presented. 

Chairman Mr. Holbrook recognized Mr. Bergie Speaks for an overview of the Roofing Bids.  Due to current budget restraints, there was a meeting on May 20, 2016 with the Wilkes County Inspections department in regards to our roofing project at Wilkesboro.  Mr. Walsh and Mr. Tom Smith with Barger Ashe (apparent low bidder) agreed on a system that would be more cost effective saving approximately $200,000.00 maintaining the same 15 year warranty.  On a motion by Ms. Huffman seconded by Mr. Shumate, and duly carried the board approved Barger-Ashe Roofing as the contractor for projects at Wilkesboro and Mulberry elementary schools.   Both projects total $730,700.00.
