The Wilkes County Board of Education will provide centralized activity buses to serve all Wilkes County Schools. The Board of Education believes that a centralized bus system will provide each school equal access to safe, well-maintained activity buses. The Board further believes that the responsibility for providing activity buses rests with the Board of Education.
SCHEDULING OF BUSES
All requests for use of a centralized activity bus must be made in advance. As early in the year as possible, a potential user should submit the appropriate form to the school bus garage that outlines dates of anticipated use of activity buses. Based upon requests received, every effort will be made to accommodate the user’s needs. If conflicting requests make it impossible to accommodate every need, requests will be approved based upon the earliest appropriate request received. If a bus cannot be made available for every request, efforts will be made to assist each user with alternate transportation.
FEES
Each user will pay the established rate per mile or a flat rate of $25 per trip, whichever is greater. Mileage charges will begin at the local site upon departure and end upon return to the site. Mileage will not be charged for travel to and from the school bus garage. The user will be responsible for driver compensation.
